Attacks on educational establishments and businesses across Europe by armed intruders are becoming increasingly commonplace. We strongly believe that all educational settings and businesses should have a lockdown procedure in place to protect the lives of students, staff and employees within, and increase the chance of survival for those involved. The government is now passing legislation (Martyn's Law) for all public venues, that have the capacity to hold 200+ persons, to have a plan in place to respond to a terrorist attack. This legislation will cover most venues, including schools, nightclubs, football stadiums, churches, hospitals, pop up venues, etc. The government have produced generic guidance for businesses and schools to use, but this means many are left responsible for developing plans without expertise in this area, this ultimately leads to procedures and policies that are not bespoke or appropriate for their site and in fact increases the risk of casualties due to this. Unnecessary expenditure is also commonplace, as establishments install alarms and other equipment, not fit for purpose. We are able to advise on all venues including 'enhanced tier' and 'standard tier' sites.

When you book an appointment with us, our advisors will visit your venue and assess the site. Onsite advice and a detailed report with recommendations for lockdown procedures will be given following the appointment. The advice we provide around locking down is based on the current layout and use of your premises. We take into account rooms with the best ballistic protection already on site and will suggest realistic and achievable procedures for your staff to use. If made, any recommendations for equipment that will complement the effectiveness of your lockdown procedure, will be sympathetic to your budget constraints. Evacuation to suitable locations off site will also be considered along with identifying the best communication methods to use. Our advice is intended to mitigate tactics employed by terrorist groups and lone wolves and is formed from information taken from historic attacks around the world. Training can also be provided to staff on site so that they know what to do in the event of an attack (please see training).
Primary and Secondary Schools
The Department for Education and Ofsted have recently made recommendations for schools to have lockdown procedures in place. This has left them with responsibility to create a plan that will increase students' safety. However, without the necessary experience in this field, it is an overwhelming expectation to create a tailored procedure that will withstand such an attack. We have the expertise to be able to support schools to develop appropriate procedures for their site and move away from generic advice given by the government that may not give the best chance of survival to their students. Our cost to schools is sympathetic to school budgets, as we believe all children should be given the best chance of being safe from harm should an atrocity occur.

Boarding premises need carefully considered and bespoke lockdown procedures. We are able to advise around lockdown procedures tailored to the needs of any boarding premises for students, and welcome enquiries from independent boarding schools and colleges.

Colleges
Due to their size, volume of people on site and often multiple satellite buildings, universities and colleges require a thorough and well planned lockdown procedure. Our team will be able to advise you on the best course of action to take should an armed intruder enter the site. Residential Dwellings

Equipment
During our visit we may make recommendations to install equipment that will aid in locking down your site. Some sites are quite vulnerable and will benefit from these additional measures, however, we are realistic in our approach around what we suggest. and sympathetic to your budget. We work closely with suppliers of lockdown equipment and can provide contacts if needed.
